PABLOS' DRAMA
I’m exhausted so I’ll try to make this as brief as possible…(I only
got 2 hours of sleep – I’m ready for bed!)
Earlier in the day, I had the most horrible scary experience while I
was at the mall in Hollywood. I had recently gotten Pablo a harness
(instead of a collar) and the lady at pet store said that if need be,
I could pick Pablo up from the harness because it supports his weight
evenly and she showed me how Pablo didn’t even mind it.
It worked very well and I was glad that I got the harness. While we
were at the mall, I was putting Pablo down with the harness and he
started wiggling and I tried to grab him and he must have perfectly
moved and opened the clasp on the leash so that it opened and DROPPED
him!!! It sounded (and looked) to me like he hit his head on the
concrete and he SCREAMMED, yelped and cried over and over like he was
in pain.
I picked him up and held him and after he calmed down, he closed his
eyes and looked all drowsy when I called his name. That SCARED me -
Chihuahuas have a soft spot on their heads and I was afrais that he
might have brain damage or something….a concusion? I ran to the
boulevard, saw a taxi driver, waved him down and jumped in his cab.
He drove me to a cat and dog hospital about three blocks away (I had
seen it earlier while I was walking) and charged me $12.50! (I
realized on the way home that he totally ripped me off – the guy who
drove me home (like 4 times farther than the three blocks) only
charged me $12.45!!! But oh well. He took advantage of my hysteria.
Okay, long story short, I praise God that the doctor was there and said
he’d see Pablo right away. He checked his eyes, bones to make sure
none were broken, watched him walk, checked his head, took his
temperature in his butt (he didn’t like that at all) and even looked
at his gums.
He said that Pablo looked okay, but just in case, he’d give him a shot
of anti-inflamatory in case he had a concusion, and some fluids IV. He
took Pablo in the back (where I couldn’t see) and I heard Pablo
screaming. (Waaa!) I feel like I’m such a mom…
When the doc brought Pablo back and asked me how far it was from the
ground that he fell. I showed him, it was probably only a 2 1/2 feet -
maybe 3 tops. (But he’s so so small so that’s pretty far for him) Then
the doctor said that Pablo seemed fine – and that “I think he may be a
good actor!” (Drama dog) So..he just said to watch him overnight and
gave me an emergency to call if I had to.
As soon as we got home, Pablo seemed fine. He ran around biting my
feet as usual and wanted his food. While I was in the kitchen he
pooped and was a little ‘off’ – he didn’t quite make it on the potty
pad. I didn’t see it because it was in the dark, and I stepped on it
on my way to turn on the light. Tracked it across the room. LAME.
This was my afternoon. Not surprising. It was an outreach day. Crazy
stuff always happens before going on outreach. I just PRAISE GOD that
Pablo is okay, because I never would have forgave myself if he wasn’t.
It was an accident, but I should have been more careful. I will be
EXTRA careful from now on, that’s for sure. Thanks to everyone who
prayed for him after I sent out my frantic text messages…
