Gift Bags for the Prostitutes…
Well, I just got back from Target – yay! I bought 20 ten dollar gift cards and some bags and my friend Heidi went out and bought some little bibles and more gift bags for the prostitutes we reach out to. I had heard of people doing this before and I never had the money to do this so I guess I just kind of brushed it off… but my friend Marjorie reminded me of the idea the other day cause she¬asked about doing it – and so I told a few people about the idea and Wow! Numerous people are so supportive and have so many cool ideas for this – I’m so excited!
We’re starting off small -¬cause well, we don’t have a lot of money but it works out cause we really don’t see more than 5-10 girls at a time anyway. So we can really make some good bags – I got some little knick knacks like lipgloss, hair ties, gum, etc. alomg with the gift cards and Heidi and I are meeting tonight to write out some cards with a scripture verse. We want to make the girls feel that they are really special. Each bag will probably cost around $20.
That might sound a little pricey, but we want these girls to KEEP what we give them and also see what effort we put into making up¬the bags, not that we just threw some junk that was laying around the house¬together! Then word will also get around – that we’re the people who give out cool gift bags to the girls – but this will not¬just be ‘After Hours’ or some church¬doing this – but a bunch of fellow believers from a bunch of different churches,¬working together.
Someone else had a great idea of making teddy bears or bracelets – I don’t really have the patience lol¬to sew or bead a string but some people are really gifted at that kind of stuff, so I’m thinking that it would be really cool if people are interested – they can make up some bags themselves and sign their name and we can hand their bag out on outreach, or they can come out on outreach with us and give it out themselves, as well as getting a mass amount of cool stuff to fill the bags with. I really want to make this a joint, ‘family’ effort of all of us Christians working together as a team. We all need eachother!
We can also have different people write a note of encouragement and scripture and of course, we can pray over all of the bags before we hand them out. We don’t really have a lot of money to do this every week, but I truly believe that money follows ministry – that if we step out by faith and start doing this – teh finances will follow.
If anyone is interested in donating money, bibles, scripture cards or any cool knick knacks to put in the gift bags, please contact me!!! Thanks!!!
