Outreach Last Night…
Well, it started Wednesday when I ate dinner and got
really sick about an hour later. Daryl and i were
going to walk down the street to get a Jamba Juice
when all of a sudden I was hit with major nausea and
thought it would pass…but didn’t. We walked all the
way to the end of the block and I was leaning over the
trash can. Thankfully, we made it home before my whole
dinner came up.:( I was bummed cause I worked all day
to prepare it, but I doubt I’ll ever make that again.
Memories. Daryl didn’t get sick though, so I’m not
sure what happened.
Anyway, yesterday was awesome, I took the bus to
Angelus Temple for Pastor School and got to see our
friend’s from Utah!
After Daryl got home from work,
he met us there. I went to Charles Neiman’s class and
he is such an amazing speaker/teacher. Wow, what a
blessing. I couldn’t take notes fast enough! He taught
some real ‘meaty’ stuff.
After we got home (early, so we could sleep before the
outreach) I started getting a migraine. Grrr. I
started looking for my migraine medicine and could only
find half of one. I know I had two more somewhere on
my desk – but for the life of me, couldn’t find them. So
I took the half, hoping that would take it away before
it got worse.
An hour later it was full blown – and I began
frantically tearing the apartment apart trying to find
the other medicine. Couldn’t – so I went to the fridge
to get ice and Daryl had used all the ice earlier -
but I had some frozen slices of coconut in a bag so I
used that (worked really well, fit my forehead
perfect) and laid in bed. Head kept POUNDING, and I
did a mass text message asking for prayer, then called
my friend Charity and she prayed with me and said
she’d have people pray whne she got to a prayer
meeting she was going to.
The prayer helped, cause although the headache was
still there, it was bearable. I just laid there for
about an hour and then got up to get ready to go out.
I was determined to go out no matter what cause I felt
like it was just the enemy trying to prevent us from
going out. When we were at the Dream Center I was
almost always sick or some drama would happen the day
of the outreach. It became pretty expected.
I still had a headache when we walked out of our
apartment, I had the coconut bag on my head right up
until we closed the door behind us. We got on the
elevator to leave, and wouldn’t you know it – the
elevator got STUCK!!! I started laughing cause what
more could go wrong? But after about ten minutes when
we tried opening the door and pushing the alarm and
calling the manager and getting voicemail and taking
off our jackets because it began getting really stuffy
and hot (the elevator is pretty small, like 3×4 or 3×5
maybe) I started getting mad. Finally after banging on
the door we heard voices outside and we yelled for
them to get the manager.
The door opened and three women were standing outside
and we said thanks and ran past them out the door,
tracts and ‘After Hours’ matchbooks in hand. We met
Charity and her group and Sara and prayed together.
We ended up going to Orange County – I really wanted
to see the track and scope it out. But when we got
there no one was out. Sara had seen a bunch of girls out a
few weeks before and so I asked the people who worked
at a couple of gas stations where the prostitutes were and
one guy said he didn’t know and at another place a guy
said that the cops started arresting girls and running
both the pimps and prostitutes away about three weeks
ago!
So we went to our other location where we’ve been
going since it was on the way home. We didn’t see
anyone except street people and a pretty young lady
standing on a corner. So we parked and me and Cindy,
one of the women who came with us went with me to talk
to her. She said she went by “Peaches” and that she
was 19 years old. (?) She was SO pretty – green eyes
and just really pretty. She seemed suprsised that we
went to talk to her, and I told her why we were out,
and that we reach out to prostitutes and pimps. She
said she didn’t have a pimp.
While we were talking to Peaches a john drove up and
was trying to see if any of us “needed a ride” (yeah
right) I went up to the car and asked him his name and
he said, Eddie or something – then he said that his
name was Dan and he was looking for an Eva? Anyway, I
told him none of us were what he was looking for and
he left (after asking, “Are you sure? Are you sure?”)
I went back to Peaches and asked her if she’d let us
pray for her, and she did. She said she goes to church
and she believed in God…she was really sweet and it
was heartbreaking to see her out there.
When we left her and started down the street, Charity
and our other friend, Kelly and Daryl in separate cars
came and pulled up beside us. Charity said that she
and John (her husband) had a bad feeling and felt that
we should leave. So I went to talk to Daryl in Kelly’s
car and asked how he felt about the area and he said
fine… but the cops saw us pulled over and pulled up
beside us. They asked if we were lost, and I went to
talk to them… they were really nice! I told them
that we were out there to share Jesus with the
prostitutes, and they thought it was cool. Then one of
them said to that they ran the girls out earlier. He
said that there are always girls AND PIMPS out there -
he said to be careful of the pimps. I told him that we
reach out to the pimps too, and gave them pimp tracts.
They thought that was really cool, and asked if they
could keep the tracts. I also gave them our contact
info.
They just told us to be careful, cause there had been
two shootings in the past two days – but they didn’t
try to run us out of there at all.
But we decide after the cops left to go home – we had
already been out for a few hours. All in all, I felt
bad cause there weren’t girls out for us to talk to -
but at least we were able to pray with “Peaches”.
That’s what it’s like with this oureach – we never
know what to expect. It was good to go out with
different people though – to see how they respond -
Cindy was great – I didn’t sense fear when we went to
talk to Peaches. Fear is such a gripping spirit – and
so easy to see in people. People on the street or who
have been on the street can really see or smell fear
like fire! She did well. I think that even if a person
initially is afraid, once they step out in faith – it
disappears.
But overall, there’s a LOT of long suffering – days
where all we do is drive around and around or walk and
talk to homeless people, drunks or druggies…
speaking of – on the way to meet up with everyone by
our place – we ran into a guy in the middle of the
sidewalk on the corner, laying flat on his face.
We reached down to see if he was alright – Daryl asked
if he was okay and he was SO drunk he couldn’t talk.
He kept nodding his head and he had keys in his hand -
I hope he wasn’t driving…
One thing that I love is that it never gets boring
around here! Thanks for your prayers!
Sorry this is another ‘book’. God bless…
