Prayer, outreach tonight and an amazing story
Well, tonight we are planning on going out – we’re not exactly sure where yet. There haven’t been too many pimps or prostitutes out where we go – at least not the ones we know… we considered going a bit further (quite a bit further – like 40 miles away, in Orange County) but right now we are so broke, gas is so expensive and I call our van the “Gas Guzzling Beast” – so we need to stay local for now. I could use some prayer – I feel kinda discouraged right now…I’ve gotta stop looking at my circumstances! I’m so lame! Ugh. 
Anyway, last night at Angelus Temple I was so encouraged to see a friend (she’s actually in the video on the website) I met her about 4 or 5 years ago. At the time I met her she was just an alcoholic – and then a couple of years ago she started dating a heroin addict and ended up getting strung out herself. She said that she knew Jesus and was raised in church but was mad at God. I shared some of my testimony with her and she always let me pray with her. She called me when she was in the hospital, and my friend Kristi and I went to visit her. Everytime Daryl and I saw her and her boyfriend and we had money we’d give them a few bucks – we both know what it’s like to have to hustle money on the street. It sucks, especially when you’re dope sick.
Well last night she came up to me at church and literally picked me up and hugged me! She said she is back with the Lord. She had been in jail for a while and looked much better than the last time I saw her – sucked up. She was staying at the Dream Center last night but wasn’t able to stay more than that. My phone wasn’t on this morning when she called so I received her message…she sounded very discouraged and she said she was going back out on the street, she had no where to go.
I tried calling back, but she was already gone. I pray that Daryl and I will run into her on the street. She’s always hung out in Hollywood, so there’s a good chance we will. Please pray for her. She is a beautiful young lady – very angry and wounded who needs healing of her heart. I love her, I’ve seen her go through so much since I’ve known her – she had more than one boyfriend who beat her up, and many times I’d run into her and she’d have bruises or a black eye…
Then there’s my pimp friend who my heart is so broken for…he’s going through something right now that I see may (and hope WILL) lead him to crying out to God. He said that he’ll be out tonight so maybe we can hang out with him. Our friend Bobby really wants to see him tonight – he bought him a new testament and just sees what everyone who meets him sees – that God has SUCH a huge calling on his life!!!
Our friend Sarah is also coming out with us tonight. This young lady is so amazing… she came out of the Game (prostitution) last year and her story is very similar to so many other women we meet out there is. I won’t go into all the details, but her boyfriend became her pimp one day… she really loved him – he went through some really difficult things including a medical problem that he needed an operation for. She stuck by him through everything… he was raised in a family where many of the men in his family were pimps. He avoided that lifestyle, even had 3 jobs at one time.
But one weekend he went with one of his pimp relatives to Vegas – and never came back, until Sarah went to look for him. His mother went with her. When they found him, he had a wad of cash… and his mother was proud of him. He explained to Sarah that all he needed was to find a girl and he could make enough money to take care of them. He’d just do it for a couple of months and stop.
After much discussion, Sarah decided that she would be his girl. The first night she worked she made about $2,000. She kept her regular job at first and just went to Vegas with her boyfriend on the weekends. But the money was too good – why keep her regular job and have to commute back and forth from LA to Vegas – why not move to Vegas instead?
They were saving money so that they could stop eventually – but then one day, Sarah’s boyfriend and his mother came home with a Mercedes Benz. Mother was proud of her son having a Mercedes. Sarah was crushed. Her boyfriend took all the money she had earned and put it on a down payment of the Mercedes that she didn’t even want. All she could see was “car payments, insurance and never being able to stop working.”
Her boyfriend eventually became more and more like her pimp and less her boyfriend – he had to treat her the way pimps treat their girls. She wasn’t allowed to talk back or disrespect him in front of anyone. Then he got another girl, who he had worked on for quite some time – she was going to college – and dropped out to prostitute instead. Sarah had to be the ‘example’ in front of the other girl, and started being pysically abusive.
One night when she was with a client, the condom broke and she literally almost lost it. She said that she immediately felt like God opened up her eyes and she went home to her parents house.
There’s much more to her story, but to make a long story shorter – Sarah is now serving the Lord and is going to a great church with some bible teaching, along with getting some inner healing/counseling and deliverance. She is such a beautiful young lady, precious to God. Her parents are Christians and serve in their church. God is so good. sarah also shares the heart Daryl and I do to reach out to not only the prostitutes, but also the pimps.
It is no coincidence that God hooked us up with Sarah (it’s a trip how we even met) and I hope to have her share her story in my class sometime, when she feels ready. She has allowed me to share her story and feels that God will use her experience to help others – as do I. There are so many other young ladies that need to hear her story – and from her own lips!!!
What happened to Sarah and her boyfriend can happen to anyone. Given the right circumstances – we are all capable of doing the unimaginable. Only by the grace of God go I…
